How to Make Oat Flour at Home

All you need is rolled oats and 30 seconds to make oat flour at home; a hearty, wholesome flour for all kinds of baked goods.

Did you know it's super easy to make oat flour at home? This might just be the easiest recipe I've ever shared on my blog.

Oats are a highly nutritious whole-grain. They're a great source of energizing carbohydrates and are jam-packed with fibre, specifically the soluble fibre beta-glucan which helps us feel more full, supports healthy cholesterol levels, and provides prebiotic fuel for the microbes in our gut.

Oats are also rich in a variety of vitamins and minerals, including B-vitamins and minerals like manganese, magnesium, copper, iron and zinc.

I love using oats in all kinds of recipes, and I especially love that a big ol' bag of rolled oats that's often a staple for most of us can so easily be transformed into a hearty, wholesome flour.

How to Use Oat Flour

Oat flour is mild and a little sweet, and creates a nice dense texture in baked goods. It often pairs well with a mix of other flours to help to create the best texture, such as almond flour or gluten-free all purpose blends, but I've used it on its own without issue in muffins, too.

Is Oat Flour Gluten-Free?

Since oats are naturally gluten-free, oat flour is also gluten-free. However, some oat crops are cross-contaminated with wheat, so if you need to eat strictly gluten-free, make sure that you double check the labeling on the oats you buy says certified gluten-free. Bob's Red Mill is a good brand to use for this.
